Season Review: Men's Tennis Continues Postseason Success

Signature wins: The Haverford College men's tennis team challenged itself against the country's best teams in 2017. Haverford notched one of its biggest wins of the season when the Fords defeated Franklin & Marshall by a 6-3 score on the Bramall Tennis Courts. Tied at three-all heading into the final three matches, the Fords swept through the remaining points against the rival Diplomats. That win, coupled with a 5-4 victory at Washington College, helped Haverford secure a third place finish in the Centennial Conference. With that finish and subsequent first round bye, the Fords advanced to the conference semifinals for the 11th time in the past 12 seasons.

Season notes: Haverford went 10-9 overall, including a 7-2 record during the Centennial Conference regular season … Seven of Haverford's nine losses came at the hands of nationally-ranked opponents with the Fords nearly upsetting No. 28 Christopher Newport (lost 5-4) … Kevin Yan was named the Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year, marking back-to-back seasons Haverford has won this award (Josh Moskovitz in 2016) … The Fords have had the conference's rookie of the year in three of the past five seasons … Haverford's four singles player who earned All-Centennial Conference accolades breaks the team's previous record of three which was accomplished in 1994, 1995, and most recently 2016 … The Fords had two first-team All-Centennial Conference singles players for just the fifth time in program history and first since the 2009 season … Haverford had two doubles teams recognized as all-conference for just the fourth time in program history, all of which have come in the past five seasons … Haverford led all men's tennis teams in the Centennial Conference with 12 student-athletes being named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll … Haverford was ranked as high as No. 10 in the Atlantic South Region during the spring season, making them the first team in the region just outside of the national rankings … Eli Phelps led the Fords with 12 wins in singles, playing primarily at No. 4 during the spring with a 6-1 conference record … Five different players finished with nine wins in doubles (Raja Arul, Rob Kresch, Josh Moskovitz, Dais Nakayama, and Arnav Patodia).
