Men's Tennis Earns ITA Team Academic Award

ITA Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – For the 17th straight season, the Haverford College men's tennis team was recognized with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic award. The Fords, who were one of 87 men's teams in Division III to earn the All-Academic Team Award, also had 12 student-athletes recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes. Those 12 ITA Scholar-Athletes tied for the third highest total in Division III, just one scholar-athlete behind two schools which had 13 honorees.

In order to earn the ITA All-Academic Award, teams must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 to receive the honor. The Fords have accomplished that feat every year since 2001.

To be a scholar-athlete, players must be a varsity letterwinner and have at least a 3.50 grade point average. Haverford's 12 recognized student-athletes mark the third-highest total in school history and most since the 2009 season when the Fords had 13 student-athletes recognized.

The 12 student-athletes to garner ITA Scholar-Athlete status were: Raja Arul, David Kong, Rob Kresch, Josh Moskovitz, Dais Nakayama, Arnav Patodia, Eli Phelps, Ishaan Prinz, Keisuke Sawada, Benjamin Soloway, Nick Sweeney, and Kevin Yan.

Men's tennis won 10 matches during the 2017 spring season and advanced to the Centennial Conference semifinals after a third place finish during the regular season. Haverford has made the postseason tournament in 11 of the past 12 seasons. The Fords finished the year ranked 13th as a team in the regional rankings and will return every player from that lineup next spring.
