Men's Tennis Takes Down Wooster, 8-1

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Haverford College men's tennis team closed its Spring Break trip with an 8-1 victory over Wooster on Saturday. The Fords (3-2) swept through the doubles matches and recorded four of their five singles wins in straight sets.

Haverford is now 11-4 overall in doubles this spring. The Fords got a pair of convincing 8-2 victories in doubles at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions. The No. 3 pairing of Rob Kresch and Ishaan Prinz has now won four straight matches together this spring, while the No. 1 team of Josh Moskovitz and David Kong is 3-2 overall.

The tightest match of the doubles competition came in the middle pairing, but ultimately the duo of Dais Nakayama and Kevin Yan won the final two games of that match to claim a 9-7 victory. That win came just two days after the pairing suffered its first setback of the spring as the Nakayama/Yan team is now 4-1 overall.

Haverford brought some new faces into the singles lineup as the team closed the week in Florida. However, it did not lose a step in doing so. Moving up in the lineup, Ishaan Prinz and David Kong both won in straight sets. Prinz was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at No. 2 singles and has four wins overall this year. Kong moved up three spots in the order but still ran his record to a perfect 9-0 this year with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3.

Rob Kresch and Arnav Patodia also won in straight sets. Kresch took identical 6-4 set scores off of his opponent during the No. 4 match. He is now 2-0 this spring and 5-1 in singles dating backing to the fall. Patodia was making his spring debut and was impressive from the start with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

Eli Phelps also made his spring debut. Winning the first set of his match by a 7-5 score, his opponent turned the tables by that same margin in the second. Nevertheless, Phelps rallied for a 10-6 win during the tiebreak to claim the team's eighth point. Wooster got its only team point of the day at No. 1 singles where it was victorious by a 6-2, 6-2 score.

After going 2-1 during its week in Florida over the College's Spring Break, men's tennis will now turn its attention to the start of Centennial Conference play as the Fords host McDaniel next Saturday, March 24 with first serves in that match set for 12 p.m. Haverford will play five of its next six matches on its home courts.
