HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team started its Centennial Conference schedule off with a 7-2 victory over McDaniel on Saturday. The Fords (4-2, 1-0 CC) swept through the doubles action and recorded four more victories in singles to defeat the Green Terror (3-5, 0-1 CC) inside the Alumni Field House.
Working more players into the lineup, Haverford still dropped just two games total during the doubles portion of the day. Raja Arul and Nick Sweeney teamed up at No. 1 doubles and came away with an 8-1 victory. Haverford's No. 2 doubles team of Caleb Mayer and Jun Mo were also victorious by that same score as each of those four players were making their spring doubles debuts.
Haverford won the third doubles match by walk over as the Green Terror only had five players available on Saturday. Adam Branovan and Andrew Linden were slated to contest that match for the Fords but were still credited with the victory. The Fords are now a combined 14-4 in spring doubles matches.
With Jun Mo being credited with a walk over win at No. 6 singles, Scott Kozarsky sealed the team victory with a straight set win at No. 5 singles. Kozarsky won his collegiate debut by a 6-1, 6-4 score.
With the match decided, the Nos. 1 through 4 singles matches were played to eight-game pro sets. Raja Arul and Nick Sweeney each notched their second victories of the day in the top two singles positions. Arul was an 8-6 winner at No. 1 singles in what was his spring singles debut. Sweeney was a convincing 8-2 winner at second singles as he too was making his spring singles debut. The Green Terror got their only two team points of the afternoon in the No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches.
After starting the conference slate off with a victory, the Fords will have a busy week upcoming. Centennial Conference action continues on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. match at Muhlenberg. Haverford will be back at home for matches against TCNJ (Wednesday, 4 p.m.), No. 25 Case Western Reserve (Friday, 4 p.m.), and No. 22 Kenyon (Saturday, 9 a.m.) during the upcoming week.
