Men's Tennis Overwhelms Ursinus, 8-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team defeated Ursinus by an 8-1 score on Tuesday evening. The Fords (9-4, 5-0 CC) won two of the three doubles points in a hard-fought start to the match, but swept through singles without dropping a set to remain undefeated in Centennial Conference action.

Pranav Krishnan and Ishaan Prinz won their second straight match together at the No. 3 doubles position. Haverford's third pairing had the quickest victory via an 8-2 score.

The top two doubles points both came down to tiebreaks after the pairings split the first 16 games in each match. David Kong and reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week Josh Moskovitz allowed just one point in their tiebreak at No. 1 doubles, improving to a perfect 3-0 in CC matches together with five victories as a pairing. The No. 2 pairing Dais Nakayama and Kevin Yan fell by that same tiebreak score. Haverford is now 13-2 overall in CC doubles matches so far this spring.

After a thrilling victory in doubles, Josh Moskovitz and David Kong carried their momentum into singles with very impressive showings. Moskovitz allowed just one game in each set of the No. 1 singles match which pitted regionally-ranked players against each other. The No. 16 player in the Atlantic South Region for Haverford improved to 3-0 against Centennial Conference foes this spring. The junior co-captain now has seven singles victories this year. Kong did not allow a first set game and conceded just two in the second as the sophomore ran his record to 14-1 this season. The Fords' No. 4 singles player is now 4-0 in CC match-ups.

Kevin Yan and Ishaan Prinz were also straight-set winners. Yan played No. 2 singles and allowed just five games total as he moved to 4-0 in conference matches. The reigning Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year has now won six straight matches in singles. Prinz won in straight sets by identical 6-2 scores. The senior co-captain recorded his seventh win of the year with Tuesday's result.

With the team score decided, the final two matches were played to eight-game pro sets. Co-captain Dais Nakayama doubled up his opponent by an 8-4 score at No. 5 singles. Nakayama is 3-0 in conference match-ups and holds five victories this year. Pranav Krishnan did not allow a single game at No. 6 singles. He is 3-0 against conference foes with three straight victories.

Men's tennis will return home this Saturday for an 11 a.m. match against Johns Hopkins. The No. 17 Blue Jays are the defending Centennial Conference Champions and one of the other two remaining unbeaten teams in conference play outside of Haverford.
