HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team capped a successful 2018 spring season as the No. 13 team in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South Region rankings. Josh Moskovitz represented Haverford as the No. 12 singles player in the region and teamed up with David Kong as that duo held its position as the No. 12 doubles team.
The Fords qualified for the Centennial Conference Tournament for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons this spring by earning the No. 3 seed during the regular season. With that subsequent bye, Haverford has now made it to at least the semifinal round during each of its postseason appearances. The Fords finished with an 11-7 overall record, featuring a 7-2 mark in Centennial Conference matches. Haverford's only defeats this season all came at the hands of nationally-ranked opponents.
Moskovitz finished his junior season with a 10-7 overall record at the top of the lineup. The co-captain went 6-1 against Centennial Conference competition and was on pace to avenge his only conference defeat of the regular season during the postseason match against Swarthmore before the team score reached decision. His conference victories during the spring included triumphs over regionally-ranked individuals from Johns Hopkins and Ursinus. The 2016 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year is now a two-time first-team All-Centennial Conference performer in singles, earning second-team recognition in singles during his rookie season.
The Moskovitz/Kong pairing was 9-6 together at No. 1 doubles this spring. That duo held a 6-1 record against Centennial Conference competition. Together, they won five straight matches during the month of April. That stretch included a victory against No. 23 Johns Hopkins' top doubles team. Moskovitz and Kong both earned first-team All-Centennial Conference in doubles for the first time in their careers this spring. Moskovitz earned second-team status during the previous two seasons, while Kong was also second-team All-CC in doubles as a rookie.
Haverford, who will be under new leadership next season as head coach Sean Sloane and assistant coach Ken Norris have been announced their retirements, returns two of its four All-Centennial Conference players in singles with Moskovitz and Kevin Yan returning to the fold as co-captains Ishaan Prinz and Dais Nakayama graduated this spring. Yan was also second-team All-Centennial Conference in doubles alongside Nakayama.
