ITA Atlantic South Region Rankings
HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team was well represented in the final rankings of the 2018-19 season which were released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Fords finished the year ranked 12th as a team while Josh Moskovitz concluded his decorated career as the No. 11-ranked singles player in the region. Moskovitz also joined fellow captain Kevin Yan to form the No. 14-ranked doubles pairing.
As a team, Haverford went 13-8 overall in head coach Brendan Kincaid's first season. The Fords' 7-2 Centennial Conference record helped Kincaid to be named the conference's coach of the year. Each of Haverford's setbacks during the 2019 season came to teams that were ranked in the national poll at some point during the spring. Highlighting Haverford's win during the regular season was a hard-fought 5-4 victory against New York University, a team which finished the year ranked No. 36 in the country. Haverford was 10-3 against teams from the Atlantic South Region this spring and picked up a second regionally-ranked victory against Southern Virginia.
The Fords have now made the Centennial Conference Tournament in nine straight seasons and 13 of 14 years since the tournament's inception in 2006. Haverford has made it to at least the semifinal round of the Centennial Conference Tournament during each of its playoff appearances, advancing to the championship match in 2007, 08, and 13. The team's 13 dual victories this spring was just one shy of tying the school record which was previously set in 1994.
In addition to his No. 11 singles ranking, Josh Moskovitz was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year. In doing so, he becomes just the second Ford ever to earn that distinction (Thomas Kinrade '09; 2008). Moskovitz finishes his career as a four-time All-Centennial Conference performer in both singles and doubles. He earned first-team All-CC recognition during each of the last three years for singles and each of the last two years for doubles. Moskovitz went 18-7 (6-2 CC) overall during his senior campaign to finish his career with 49 victories in singles and 91 combined wins over his career. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Regional Championships during the fall season and also defeated then-No. 50 Vishal Walla during the team's thrilling victory against NYU. He also defeated Vishnu Joshi of Johns Hopkins for the second straight season who was ranked No. 2 in the region during their showdown.
With Moskovitz playing doubles alongside the Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Kevin Yan, Haverford's No. 1 doubles team went 13-10 (7-1 CC) together. That top doubles pairing also made it to the quarterfinal round of the ITA Championships and defeated regionally-ranked opposition from Southern Virginia and Swarthmore during the regular season. That duo went 8-1 during their final nine matches paired together during the regular season.
Looking ahead, the Fords have an obvious hole to fill with the graduation of Moskovitz and fellow co-captain Nick Sweeney. However, the Fords do return the Nos. 2-4 players in the singles lineup with an All-Centennial Conference performer in each of those slots with Yan, George Jiang, and Pranav Krishnan. Arnav Patodia also won double-digit matches playing No. 6 in the singles lineup. In addition to a new group of first-year student-athletes arriving on campus this fall, Haverford will be boosted by three members of its junior class who are returning from spending their entire junior years abroad: David Kong, Raja Arul, and Rob Kresch.
