HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team made the most of its opportunity to play as the Fords defeated Muhlenberg by a 7-2 score on Sunday afternoon. Celebrating Senior Day before the match, this senior class helped lead the team in its only match of the 2021 season.
The Fords opened play showing little rust as they swept through doubles action. Playing No. 1 doubles, Jason Edmonds and George Jiang made the quickest work of their match as that duo was an 8-2 winner. Danny Loder won his debut for the Fords as he teamed up with Jackson Trevor for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Senior Pranav Krishnan, an All-Centennial Conference performer in doubles during his career, teamed up with first-year Kirin Eicher at No. 3 doubles as that duo prevailed in the 8-6 final. That match represented the most closely contested contest in Haverford's sweep of doubles action. Although not counting towards the team score, senior Scott Kozarsky and first-year Adam Chow played an exhibition doubles match together and were 8-3 victors over their opponents.
George Jiang and Danny Loder doubled up on their victories Sunday with wins in the top two singles matches. Jiang doubled up his opponent in a 10-point tiebreak after his Mules counterpart was able to secure the second set. Loder's first set went to a tiebreak at No. 2 singles before he blanked his opponent during the second set.
Senior Jun Mo capped his Haverford career in style with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles. Mo wrapped up his career with 13 varsity wins between single and doubles and finishes his four years at Haverford undefeated in singles against Centennial Conference opponents. His win on Sunday officially clinched Haverford's team victory. Abhinav Nallapareddy was the final straight-set winner for the Fords. He claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles. Just for good measure, Harrison Weinstock played an exhibition singles match, prevailing 10-6 during his 10-point tiebreak after winning the opening set by a 6-3 score.
With just the one match this spring, the Fords sent seniors Scott Kozarsky, Pranav Krishnan, and Jun Mo out on a winning note. That trio's contributions to the team were certainly numerous over their four years and will be immensely missed. Even with that void to fill, the Fords showcased tremendous talent among the returning players on the team and appear poised to once again be one of the top contending teams in the Centennial Conference for years to come.
