Men's DMR runs to All-America spot at nationals

LINCOLN, Neb. – Day one of the NCAA Division III 2014 Indoor Track & Field Championship got underway Friday in the Bob Devaney Sports Center at the University of Nebraska with Haverford College's men's distance medley relay running to All-America status with a runner-up finish in the event.

The Fords broke the meet record with a time of 9 minutes, 57.70 seconds but Central (Iowa) College took the title, and set a new meet record, with a winning time of 9:54.08.

Charlie Marquardt led off the relay for Haverford and was followed by Jonathan Yellets, Gebby Keny and anchorman Christopher Stadler.

The final individual event of the evening, immediately before the DMR, was the 5,000-meter run. Avi Bregman represented Haverford in the event and finished ninth with a time of 14:34.29. John Crain of North Central (Ill.) College captured the event crown with a time of 14:06.73.

In the team race Haverford sits in a tie for eighth place with eight points from the DMR. The University of Wisconsin–La Crosse broke out to a commanding lead on the opening day with 40.5 points, far ahead of second place Wis.–Oshkosh.

Day two of the meet commences Saturday morning. Stadler and Marquardt will both run in the 3,000 at approximately 5:25 p.m. (EST).
