HAVERFORD, Pa. – Charlie Marquardt was named the Centennial Conference Men's Indoor Track Performer of the Week after being selected as the Seamus McElligott Performer of the Meet at the McElligott Invitational this past Saturday inside the Alumni Field.
Marquardt's honor is the 12th time he has been recognized as the conference athlete of the week during his career. Marquardt's most recent honor marks his fourth during the indoor track & field season and the first of his senior indoor campaign. He has also been named the Centennial Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week five times and earned the conference's outdoor track athlete of the week on three other occasions.
To earn his most recent accolade, the reigning Centennial Conference Runner of the Year in all three seasons crossed the line in a time of 1:54.70 during the 800 meter race Saturday. Marquardt's time was edged out of the top spot by just eight-hundredths of a second. That time ranks him sixth on the NCAA Division III performance list so far this season.
Haverford has won the conference's track athlete of the week for three straight weeks after the most recent award period. Tyler Fong started this stretch when he won the mile race at the Kutztown Invitational. Jeffrey Ainsley won last week's award following his victory in the 60 meter hurdles at the Collegeville Classic.
Men's indoor track & field will next participate in the Villanova Invitational this Saturday. That meet will be held in Staten Island, N.Y.
