Men's Indoor Track and Field Freshmen Shine At Collegeville Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Haverford College men's indoor track and field team competed at the Collegeville Classic on the Ursinus College campus on Saturday at the Bakes Fieldhouse, with some talented freshmen able to make their mark on the leaderboards with some strong finishes in the middle distances.

In the 3000m, freshman Sam McCalpin finished second overall in a time of 9:12.60 in his 3000m debut. Freshman David Watt crossed in 10th with a time of 9:41.12 while Liam Bassett crossed in a collegiate-best 10:08.03 for 14th.

In the men's mile, Simon Perales finished third overall with a time of 4:34.09, as the freshman paced the Haverford contingent in his collegiate-best time to date. Matt Willig finished 12th overall with a time of 4:45.44 while Chris Gandolfo-Lucia crossed in 4:45.96 for 14th. Freshman Steve Gan crossed in 29th with a collegiate-best mark of 5:09.66.

In the 200m, Liam Lynch finished 12th in a time of 23.79 while in the 400m, Scott Pollara finished 16th in a time of 54.57. Alex Frost was just behind Pollara in 17th place in a time of 54.72.  In the 800m, Ian Woodhouse finished in 16th place with a time of 2:07.54.

In the 60m hurdles, Zach Oji finished in 14th with a time of 9.94. Cameron Albrecht competed in the high jump finishing in 11th, matching his height from the Haverford Widener Holiday Dual with a mark of 1.60m.

Greg Van Aken finished in seventh in the pole vault with a distance of 3.8m. Josiah Legaspi finished 15th in the shot put with a 11.66m mark while George Avecillas posted a 9.61m mark in the shot put and a mark of 5.09m in the long jump.

A busy week for the Fords gets underway on Thursday as Haverford heads to the Widener Field Meet in Chester, Pa. The meet is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. and continues into Friday with another 4:00 p.m. starting gun.

The Fords will also take part in the Villanova Open in Staten Island, N.Y., on Saturday, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex in New York City.
