Dominant 3,000m Showing Highlights McElligott Invitational for Men's Track & Field

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's indoor track & field team hosted the McElligott Invitational inside the Alumni Field House on Saturday afternoon. Haverford's effort was highlighted by a dominant performance in the 3,000 meter race, one of three event titles for the Fords on the day. The Fords finished second overall in the meet, with 124 points on the day. 

Dylan Gearinger, Greg Morgan and Henry Woods took three of the top four spots in the 3,000 meter event, with Gearinger pacing the field with a time of 8:21.73. After a track adjustment, the mark is noted as the fastest in NCAA Division III so far this season and is the sixth-best mark in the illustrious history of the Haverford program.

Morgan's time of 8:23.86 is currently listed as the second fastest mark in NCAA Division III this season for qualifying purposes.  Woods crossed in 8:27.16, a mark that is fifth on the NCAA performance list.

Graham Peet was seventh overall, crossing in 8:43.02, a mark listed 24th on the NCAA performance list. Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe was ninth, finishing in 8:48.20 and James Stadler rounded out the top 10 with a mark of 8:49.21. Sam McCalpin (8:52.21, 11th place), Lincoln Satterthwaite (8:54.16, 12th place), Matt Katz (8:55.97, 14th place) and James Barker (8:59.25, 16th place) all eclipsed the nine minute mark.

Jack Hunter registered a sixth place finish in the mile (4:39.08) while Sam Ditkovsky crossed in 13th in the event (4:48.79).

Haverford's other individual event title came in 800 meter race. Chris Goings won the event with a time of 1:58.04. William Hillegas was 10th with a time of 2:16.18. The 400 meter saw Liam Lynch finish second in a time of 51.27 while Gabe Pascal was 15th (1:00.26).

In the sprints, Oscar Huang crossed in sixth with a time of 7.69 in the 60 meter dash while Rudy Hernandez was seventh in 7.73. Justin Telleria was 10th in 8.05. Huang finished the 200 meter in seventh (24.96) while Telleria was 14th (26.06). Zach Oji finished fourth in the 60 meter hurdles (10.11).

The men's 4x400 meter relay also captured an event title as the squad of Gene Perry, Scott Pollara, Oji and Liam Lynch posted a finish of 3:33.44, ahead of Elizabethtown.  The same four runners finished in second in the 4x200 meter relay in a time of 1:36.01.

In field events, Keiran Marrett-Hitch finished third in the high jump (1.80m) while Silvan Sooksatan tied for fourth (1.75m). Jack Brower and Chris Glazer finished in a sixth place tie (1.70m).

Sooksatan was the top Haverford finisher in the long jump with a seventh place performance (5.70m). Rohan Shukla finished 12th with a mark of 5.39m. Shukla was seventh in the triple jump (11.08m).

Josiah Legaspi finished seventh in the shot put (11.51m) while Antwain Golson was 14th (8.34m). Legaspi finished sixth in the weight throw (12.54m), which was held earlier in the week at Widener.

Cameron Albrecht competed in the heptathlon, part of the Widener Field Meet, finishing in fifth with 3087 points. The event also featured Division I VCU.  Albrecht was the third place finisher amongst Division III entrants.

Men's indoor track & field will next be in action on Saturday, February 3. Athletes will be split between the Tufts Invitational in Medford, Mass. and the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus. Both events are slated to begin at 10:00 a.m.
