COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – On the first day of action at the Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Haverford men sit in second place with 40 overall points after taking home event titles in the 5,000 meters and the distance medley relay on Saturday. Haverford is 10 points behind Johns Hopkins, who has 50 total points after the first day of competition at Ursinus.
Haverford excelled in the 5,000 meters, posting three scoring performances in the distance, including an event title from Dylan Gearinger. Gearinger finished in 14:50.69 to capture the event after taking the 3,000 meter a season ago. Graham Peet, the reigning champion in the distance, finished directly behind Gearinger in 14:52.68. James Stadler also scored for the Fords with a sixth place finish in 15:11.32, eclipsing his seed time with a new career best mark. Haverford recorded 21 points in the 5,000 meter event alone.
Ryan Herlihy finished just outside the scoring eight with a ninth place finish in 15:20.27. Matt Willig was 13th in 15:33.00 while David Watt was 17th in 15:51.37.
The Fords returned to the top of the podium in the distance medley relay after a second place finish a season ago. Henry Woods, Liam Lynch, Chris Goings, and Greg Morgan finished with a time of 10:04.2, picking up 10 points. The DMR was the eighth fastest in Haverford program history.
Haverford picked up four points with a fifth place finish in the 4x200 meter relay, as Keiran Marrett-Hitch, Oscar Huang, Zach Oji and Scott Pollara crossed in a time of 1:37.64.
Oji scored five points for the Fords in the triple jump with a fourth-place finish (11.90m) and got off to a good start in the 60m prelims with a time of 9.82 in the 60 meter hurdles, eclipsing his seed time of 10 seconds flat to qualify for the finals in the discipline.
Cameron Albrecht competed in the heptathlon, finishing in second in the men's high jump, fourth in the 60 meters, fifth in the long jump and eighth in the shot put. Heptathlon will wrap up tomorrow afternoon.
The Centennial Conference indoor track & field championships will conclude on Sunday. Haverford's first event will be Albrecht competing in the heptathlon 60 meter hurdles before the men's long jump pit opens at noon. Haverford hits the track for the highly anticipated men's mile at 12:20 p.m.
