Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performers of the Year
HAVERFORD, Pa. – Christopher Stadler has been named the 2013-14 Overall Male Performer of Year by the Philadelphia-area Sports Information Directors (PhillySIDA) as the capstone award to the annual Academic All-Area program.
In conjunction with the Philadelphia Inquirer, PhillySIDA names 24 Academic All-Area teams during the course of the academic year—12 in men’s sports, 12 in women’s sports—and has a Performer of the Year in each of those sports. At the end of the year, all of the Performers of the Year are put on a second ballot, and PhillySIDA members vote to determine both a male and female Overall Performer of the Year. Stadler was the Academic All-Area Performer of the Year in cross country during the fall, and track & field during the spring, making him the only two-time POTY recipient this year.
Stadler graduates from Haverford College as a two-time national champion and the recipient of eight All-American certificates. Stadler’s most recent national championship came in the final race of his senior season as he was the first runner across the line in the NCAA Outdoor 5,000 meter Championship. He earned his first national championship during his junior year in the 5,000 meters during the indoor track & field season.
Of Stadler’s eight All-American honors, he earned five of those certificates during his senior season. In addition to his national championship run in the 5,000 meters this spring, Stadler also finished runner-up in 10,000 meters at the outdoor championships. During the indoor season, Stadler placed fifth in the 3,000 meters and anchored the second-place Distance Medley Relay. Stadler got his senior season started with a 19th-place performance at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
At the conference level, Stadler won five Centennial Conference titles during this past year. He claimed the individual championship in cross country, while also winning the indoor 3,000 and 5,000; and outdoor 5,000 and 10,000 meter races.
Stadler received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship following his indoor track & field season. A nine-time honoree on the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll, Stadler earned that distinction in each of his three running seasons during his sophomore, junior and senior campaigns.
