CHESTER, Pa. – Senior Jordan Schilit was the top Division III finisher in the 1,500-meter run Monday night at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier hosted at Widener University. Schilit's fourth-place time of 3 minutes, 47.25 seconds on Monday is the second-fastest time in D-III outdoor track.
The final qualifier, known as the Tuppeny Twilight Meet and hosted in the past at Swarthmore College, was the last chance for competitors to improve their performances for consideration into the NCAA D-III outdoor track & field championship meet hosted in La Crosse, Wis., on May 23-25.
Schilit's performance at the Tuppeny should lock down a spot at the national meet in the 1,500.
In addition to Schilit's strong 1,500 race, teammate Peter Kissin posted a career-best time of 3:54.66 to finish 21st, Charlie Marquardt was 29th (3:56.36) and Michael Riccio was 31st in a season-best 3:56.45.
Christopher Stadler, the Centennial outdoor champion in the 5,000 and 10,000 and indoor national champion in the 5K, improved his season best in the outdoor 5,000 with clocking of 14:26.14 Monday night at Widener. His time is the 13th-fastest among D-III runners and should qualify the junior All-American for the outdoor championship meet.
Sam Callon's fifth-place finishing time of 22.59 seconds in Monday's 200 was a season best and is the sixth-fastest 200 run among Centennial competitors this spring.
In Monday's 3,000m steeplechase at Widener, Haverford's David Roza posted a career-best time of 9:23.90 in finishing second.
Schilit, Stadler and several other Fords are in the running for the D-III championship meet. Qualifiers will be announced either Sunday night, May 19 or the following morning.
