Nine Fords capture spots on all-conference teams

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Centennial Conference released the all-conference track and field teams on Monday afternoon and the Haverford College men's track and field team had nine different athletes capture recognition from the league.

Athletes earn first-team selection by winning an event at the league's championship meet which was contested May 2-4 at Swarthmore College. Individual event runner-ups at the meet earn second-team all-Centennial honors and third place finishers are named honorable mention all-conference.

The Fords finished the conference championships in second place and were led by four athletes who won a combined six events. Junior Gibby Graves was honored as the Most Outstanding Field Performer after claiming gold medals in both the long jump and triple jump. The first-team all-conference performer also came in second in the high jump.

Christopher Stadler joined Graves as the other Ford to win multiple events at the outdoor conference championships. Stadler took home the top times in both the 5,000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run and was named to the all-conference first-team for the second consecutive season. Brian Sokas placed third in both events and received honorable mention all-Centennial honors.

The 3,000-meter steeplechase saw senior Avi Bregman win the event for a third straight year and garner first-team all-conference accolades. Junior David Roza was named all-conference second-team with his silver medal finish in the event.

Jonathan Yellets was the final Haverford athlete to be named to the first-team after he sprinted to the best result in the 400-meter dash.

Charlie Marquardt and Michael Iannacone were tabbed second-team all-Centennial in the 1,500 and pole vault, respectively.

Senior Andrew Bennett placed third in the triple jump and took home honorable-mention honors.

Haverford competes at Swarthmore College today, May 12 for the last chance to post NCAA qualifying times for the NCAA Championships, which will take place on May 22-24 in Delaware, Ohio.
