Stadler earns regional track athlete of the year award for standout spring

NEW ORLEANS - Honors continue to roll in for Haverford College senior Christopher Stadler of the men's track & field team as the distance runner was named the Mideast Region outdoor track athlete of the year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this week.

Stadler, who also won the regional award during his junior and senior indoor track seasons, ran the fastest time in the 5,000-meter run in all of Division III in 2014. His time of 14 minutes, 1.62 seconds at the Larry Ellis Invitational on April 19 ranks eighth all-time in the event among D-III performances.

A native of Belmont, Mass., Stadler also ranks among the national leaders on the D-III performance list in the 1,500m and 10,000m at sixth and seventh, respectively.

Stadler, the national champion of the indoor 5,000m in 2013, claimed the Centennial Conference outdoor crowns in the 5,000m and 10,000m in the beginning of May and remains undefeated against D-III competition in both events in 2014.

It has been a memorable spring for Stadler as he earned a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and was named the 2014 winner of the Varsity Cup which recognizes the oustanding athlete of Haverford's senior class.

A 10-time Centennial champion and six-time All-American in his career, Stadler will have the opportunity to add some more memories when he competes in the 5,000m and 10,000m races at the national outdoor meet beginning May 22.
