Curry Wins Steeplechase at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. – Senior John Curry won the 3,000m steeplechase event at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University on Saturday afternoon.

The senior was one of only two runners in the field to finish in less than 10 minutes. Curry set a personal record in the event with a 9:56.53. Sophomore Michael Brier ran the steeplechase for the first time and finished in fourth place (10:14.00). Junior Nicholas Gandolfo-Lucia crossed the finish line with the eighth best time (10:25.15). Freshmen Brad Morbeck (10:43.19), Liam Bassett (10:49.88) and Lincoln Satterthwaite (10:55.92) each ran their first career steeplechase.

Senior David Roza picked up an eighth place finish in the 1,500m (4:06.28). Sophomore Julian Schneider (4:13.12) ran in his first 1,500m event and placed in the 20th position. Junior Ryan Gooding set a personal record with a 4:17.24. Freshman Tyler Fong (4:18.85) also ran in first 1,500m race and finished second in his heat. Junior Bill Ristow (4:20.50) was second and sophomore Charlie Hale (4:21.90) was fourth in their heat.

In the 800m, senior Soren Rasmussen nabbed a top five finish, placing fifth (2:00.62) and senior Chris Gardner finished in the top 20 (17th) with a 2:03.27.

Junior Jonathan Yellets finished in the top half of the 400m field (30th) with a 53.57 while sophomore Alex Frost had his best 400m time (54.64) of the season.

During the shot put, freshman Josiah Legaspi had the best throw for Haverford (11.25m) and finished 25th.

The men's outdoor track and field team will participate in the Princeton Distance Night next Friday and the Muhlenberg Invitational the next day.
