Graves and Brier Win Individual Titles at Muhlenberg Invite

ALLENTOWN, Pa.  – Senior Gibby Graves (long jump) and sophomore Michael Brier (1,500m) each won their respective events as the Haverford College men's outdoor track team participated in the Muhlenberg Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Graves won the long jump (6.56m) by six-tenths of a meter over Eddie Cotton of Oneota. The senior also finished in third place in the triple jump (13.20m) and fifth in the high jump (1.83m).

The Fords had a fantastic 1,500m event with five runners in the top 15. Brier (4:06.24) won by just under a second over his freshman teammate Henry Woods (4:07.17). Senior Soren Rasmussen was fifth with a 4:09.19. Junior Bill Ristow had a personal best time of 4:15.37 (14th) as did freshman Tyler Fong with a 4:15.47 (15th).

The 400m event saw senior Chris Gardner set a personal record with a 53.40 to finish 12th in the 28-person field.

Haverford had another top ten when sophomore Julian Schneider crossed the finish line in eighth during the 800m. In the 400m hurdles, freshman Daniel Sax finished ninth with a 1:00.03.  

In the 100m, senior Sam Callon just missed out on his personal best by three-tenths of a second with a 11.58 to come in 13th. Sophomore Alex Frost had an 11.64 to place 15th. Callon was 17th in the 800m with a 23.91.

Senior Alex Smith broke his personal record in the discus with a throw of 31.13 to finish in 17th place. Freshman Josiah Legaspi threw in the event (28.13m) for the first time and was right behind his teammate in the 18th position.

Freshman George Avecillas threw the javelin for the first time in his career and had a 38.23m throw.

Head coach Tom Donnelly's squad will now travel to the West Chester Invitational next Saturday with the meet scheduled for 10 a.m.
