Men's Track & Field Wins 11 Events in Haverford Midweek

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's outdoor track and field team won 11 out of 20 events at the Haverford Midweek Meet on Wednesday. The event was the only meet hosted by Haverford during this outdoor season.

In addition to Haverford's success on its newly renovated track and brand new throwing facility, Jeffrey Ainsley broke the school record in the decathlon by scoring 6,225 points at the Penn Relays. Ainsley placed third overall in a field of five athletes. His score is tied for ninth in all of Division III this season. Ainsley's strongest event came with a time of 15.05 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles to score 843 of those record-breaking points.

In the 800 meters at Haverford, standout senior Charlie Marquardt set a new personal record, clocking in at 1:51.82. The time granted him first place in the event and defeats his previous personal record, which was set in the 2015 Centennial Conference Championships, by about a half of a second. His mark stands as the tenth-best on the outdoor qualifying list this season.

Sophomore Henry Woods finished the 1,500 meters in second place with an excellent time of 3:55.00. For Woods, the time is a new personal record.

Freshman Liam Lynch finished in the top three in all three events he competed in. Lynch crossed the finish line as the top runner in the 200 meters with a final time of 23.89 seconds. He came in second place in the 400 meters (50.04 seconds) before placing third in the 100 meters (11.77 seconds).

Junior Alex Frost had similar success, placing first in the 200 meters, just ahead of Lynch at 23.61 seconds. He was second in the 100 meters, just ahead of Lynch at 11.74 seconds. Both times were personal bests for Frost.

Senior Dorvil Gabriel finished first in the four events he competed in. He set a new personal best in the long jump, making his mark at 5.96 meters, beating his old record of 5.58 meters. He was also the best in the triple jump, leaping 12.48 meters. In the 110 hurdles, he finished in 16.32 seconds, a tenth off from his personal best set earlier this season. His time of 57.06 seconds in the 400 hurdles netted him first place as well.

In the rest of the field events, senior Robert Parry placed first in the discus (39.28 meters) and second in the shot put (12.18 meters). The shot put was won by Josiah Legaspi (12.66 meters). Legaspi also won the hammer (33.16 meters). The Fords notched another top finish in the pole vault with Greg Van Aken's 3.75 meter mark.

The men's outdoor track and field team continues action this weekend with the TCNJ Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
