Men's Track and Field Wins Four Events on Last Day of CC Championship

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Haverford College men's outdoor track & field team completed another impressive stint in the Centennial Conference Championship on Sunday, finishing in second place overall for the third year in a row. The team's 177 total points are the most it has totaled in the conference main event since 2013.

As expected, senior Charlie Marquardt topped all runners in the 1,500 meters. Marquardt finished with a final time of 3:55.73. Later in the day, he also won the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:09.90. Marquardt also gained eight points for the team in the 800 meter run, finishing second with a time of 1:55.83, just narrowly missing first place.

Haverford as a whole filled the top of the leaderboard in both the 1,500m (with five total runners in the top eight) and the 5,000m (four of the top five). In the 1,500 meters, Sophomore Henry Woods finished third (3:57.37) followed by Michael Brier, Julian Schneider, and Greg Morgan in sixth, seventh, and eighth. Woods also finished third in the 5,000m (15:13.23), followed by Sam Fujimori and Dylan Verner-Crist in fourth and fifth respectively. 

Senior Jeffrey Ainsley finished in the top spot of the 110 hurdles at 14.73 seconds, a half second ahead of second place. Fellow senior Dorvil Gabriel placed fifth in the race (15.57 seconds), giving Haverford 15 total points in the event between the two runners. Gabriel also came in fifth in the triple jump, making his mark at 12.47 meters. Elsewhere, Gabriel placed fourth in the 400 hurdles in a time of 57.13 seconds. 

Senior Jonathan Yellets topped the 400 meter dash by two tenths of a second with a final time of 49.77 seconds for the school's fourth first place finish of the day. Freshman Liam Lynch placed fourth in the event at 50.43 seconds. 

In the relays, Haverford's team of Lynch, Yellets, Alex Frost, and Peter Kurtz placed third at 3:24.28 in the 4x400 relay. In the 4x100, Lynch, Ainsley, Yellets, and Frost also placed third at 43.61 seconds.
