HAVERFORD, Pa. – Charlie Marquardt will represent Haverford College in the upcoming outdoor track and field NCAA Championship, starting on Thursday. Marquardt, a senior, will be competing in the 1,500 meter distance, an event in which he is currently the top-seeded runner in the country.

Marquardt ran a 3:43.24 1,500m at the Swarthmore Qualifier on May 17 to set a new personal record and the top time in the nation this year. The second-seeded runner, Jeremy Hernandez, finished the same race just over two-tenths of a second behind Marquardt. The Pasadena, Calif. native also ran the same event last year as a junior. His time of 3:50.93 finished second to St. Olaf's Paul Escher, the fifth-seeded runner in the 1,500m this year. Needless to say, the field is expected to be extremely competitive this year.

Marquardt finished his final outdoor regular season having been named the Centennial Conference Track Athlete of the Week twice and then the CC Outstanding Track Performer of the Year,  the winner of the Varsity Cup, a USTFCCCA Mideast All-Region runner, and the Centennial Conference champion in the 1,500m and 5,000 meters.

For Marquardt, the 1,500 meter distance prelims begin on Thursday, May 19 at 2:30 p.m. The final will take place on Saturday. The NCAA Championship will be held in Waverly, Iowa and is hosted by Wartburg College.
