WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Haverford College men's outdoor track and field team had a successful day at the West Chester Invitational on Saturday afternoon, capturing a pair of event titles. Greg Morgan took home the 800m crown while Graham Peet triumphed in the steeplechase.
Morgan took home the event title in the 800m, outpacing a crowded field with a personal-best of 1:58.18. James Barker crossed in 17th with a time of 2:08.11 while Arthur Chang was 27th in an outdoor-best time of 2:13.58 and Joshua Frye was 30th in 2:16.52.
Graham Peet was the top finisher in the steeplechase as the Fords took the first five spots in the competition. Peet crossed in 9:34.75 ahead of James Stadler (personal-best 9:37.87), Lincoln Satterthwaite (10:01.55), Chris Gandolfo-Lucia (10:13.22) and Liam Bassett (10:51.62).
The 1500m saw a bevy of Fords entrants, led by Peter Kurtz, who crossed in third place with a time of 4:05.90. Julian Schneider was sixth (4:08.56) while Chris Goings crossed in eighth in 4:11.20. Tyler Fong was 13th (4:22.58) and Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe was 14th (4:22.90). Hiro Kawakatsu crossed in 20th (4:26.33), Ian Woodhouse finished in 24th (4:30.90) and Steve Gan was 33rd (4:44.28) to round out the Haverford contingent.
In the 100m, Alex Frost paced the Fords contingent with an eighth place finish in 11.67. Oscar Huang crossed in 20th (12.22) and Zach Oji was 21st in 12.29.
Liam Lynch finished third overall in the 200m in a time of 23:04, while Huang reprised his start in the 100m with a 33rd place finish in the 200m, crossing in 25.85. Lynch was second in the 400m with a time of 50.13. In 400m hurdle action, Oji crossed in eighth place with a time of 1:01.16 while Alex Frost was 12th in 1:02.62.
The Fords 4x100 meter relay team of Greg Van Aken, Oji, Lynch and Frost crossed in third place.
Josiah Legaspi competed in the shot put, discus and hammer for the Fords. In the hammer throw, Legaspi recorded a personal best with a mark of 36.90m. The mark is the second best in Haverford program history.
In the shot put, Legaspi finished eighth with a mark of 11.77m. In the discus, Legaspi recorded a mark of 26.57m. George Avecillas was third in the javelin with a 41.59 mark.
Jack Brower posted a personal best 5.46m mark in the long jump and a 1.70m mark in the high jump. Other long jump entrants included Rohan Shukla, who finished 12th with a 5.54m mark, Chris Glazer who finished in 16th (5.33m) and Cameron Albrecht who was 20th (4.53m). Shukla also posted a 11.10m mark in the triple jump.
The Fords will return to action at the Chester Quarry Classic on Saturday, April 15. The event, hosted by Widener, will begin at noon as the lead up to the Centennial Conference championships in Baltimore (May 5-7) begins.
