HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's outdoor track and field team captured two event titles at the Haverford Midweek Invitational on Wednesday afternoon, with Alex Frost outpacing the field in the 200m and Greg Van Aken winning the triple jump.
Haverford competed against Widener and Villanova at Johnson Track in the final official preparation for the Centennial Conference Championships.
Alex Frost set a new personal-best in the 200m, taking home the event title with a time of 23:06. Oscar Huang was eighth in 25.06, a personal-best. In the triple jump, Van Aken posted a personal-best mark of 11.80m to capture the event title. Chris Glazer followed with a mark of 11.68m and Rohan Shukla was third in 11.59m.
In the 100m, Frost finished in third overall with a time of 11.56 while Van Aken was fifth in 11.70, a personal-best mark. Huang finished in 12.08m, a personal best time that was good for seventh overall. Glazer took a 12th place finish in 12.49m in his initial foray into the distance.
Frost and Huang also competed in the 400m, with Frost setting a new personal-best time (52.44) with a second place finish while Huang finished his debut in the distance in fourth place (57.69).
Liam Lynch finished second in the 800m, crossing in 1:53.59 and narrowly missing his personal-best set last Friday at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton. Peter Kurtz was seventh (1:55.74) while Greg Morgan set a personal record with a 1:56.21 time, good for ninth place. Chris Goings finished in 11th (1:57.39) while Julian Schneider was 12th overall (1:58.00).
Tyler Fong crossed in 13th in the 800m (1:58.74) while Hiroshi Kawakatsu set a personal record with a 1:59.02 mark, good for 15th. Rounding out the Haverford contingent was James Barker (personal-record 2:01.49) in 17th and Ian Woodhouse in 20th (2:04.19).
The 1500m group was led by Lincoln Satterthwaite in fourth place (4:09.22). Evan Hamilton was fifth (4:10.27), Matthew Willig was seventh (personal-best 4:11.57) and Chris Gandolfo-Lucia was ninth (4:09.22). Arthur Chang finished in 10th (personal-best 4:27.20), Joshua Frye crossed in 11th (personal-best 4:31.11) while Steve Gan (personal-best 4:40.03) and Liam Bassett (4:40.95) were 12th and 13th, respectively.
Van Aken finished second in the the long jump with a personal record mark of 5.61m while Shukla (5.59m) and Glazer (5.47m) were third and fourth for Haverford.
Jack Brower was second in the high jump (1.75m), ahead of Cameron Albrecht (personal-best 1.70m), Glazer (personal-best 1.70m) and Shukla (personal-best 1.65m).
Josiah Legaspi set a new personal record in the discus (35.78m) for a third place finish while Scott Pollara was fourth (27.44m) and George Avecillas was fifth (personal-best 26.21m). Avecillas finished second in the Javelin (38.97m).
The Fords will now have a weekend off from competition and will await the Centennial Conference Championships at Johns Hopkins beginning on May 5 and continuing through May 7.
