Woods Honored With Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Designation

Full Philly-SIDA Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford Men's Track and Field distance runner Henry Woods has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team, the organization announced in a release on Monday morning. The honor is yet another academic award for the junior, who was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's Track & Field/Cross Country team for District 4, which includes all Division III institutions in Pennsylvania, in late May.

Woods, a product of New York City, caps off an impressive junior campaign with the All-Area award. The running season started exceptionally strong for the Philosophy major in the fall of 2016. In Cross Country competition, Woods picked up an All-American certificate after a 22nd place finish at the National Championships in Louisville, Ky.

Woods became the 34th cross country All-American in program history with the finish. After the conclusion of the season, he was named to the Cross Country Men's Academic All-Area by the Philadelphia Inquirer. Woods has also been a Centennial Conference honor roll nominee in each season of eligibility.

Woods was the top finisher for Haverford in every race he ran during the 2016 Cross Country season as the Fords qualified for NCAA Championships for the 24th straight season. Woods was also an All-Region honoree after finishing third at the NCAA Mideast Regional and an All-Centennial Conference First-team after finishing second overall at the Conference Championships at the Alumni Cross Country Course on the Haverford campus.

During the Indoor Track and Field season, Woods was All-Mideast region in both the 3,000 meter distance and the distance medley relay. During the outdoor campaign, Woods posted a time of 14:26.36 at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier, a new personal best mark that also sits as the 10th best time in the illustrious history of the program. The time earned Woods All-Region honors to cap the trifecta of plaudits in all three running seasons during the 2016-17 academic year.

Last Month, Woods captured the 5,000 meter championship at the Centennial Conference championship meet in Baltimore to pick up first-team All-Centennial honors.  At the Division III National Championships in Geneva, Ohio, Woods outpaced his 17th seed with an 11th place finish in a time of 14:52.33.

Woods is joined on the Academic All-Area team by Daniel Belkin (Swarthmore), Richard Campolungo (Rutgers-Camden), Casey Comber (Villanova), Justin DeLuzio (Gwynedd Mercy), David Dorsey and Dan Savage (Saint Joseph's), Noah Kennedy-White (Penn), Glenn Kohles and John Meyer (Rowan).
