HAVERFORD, Pa. -  Haverford track & field All-American Charlie Marquardt '16 has qualified for the 1,500 meter race at the USATF Outdoor National Championships. The meet, which will be held from Thursday, June 22 to Sunday, June 25, is contested inside Hornet Stadium on the campus of Sacramento State.

The best track and field athletes in the country will converge on California's capital city to compete to qualify for August's IAAF World Championships in London. The meet is used to pick the top three US qualifiers for the event at London's Olympic Stadium.

Marquardt qualified for the national championships by virtue of a 3:39.53 time at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier in May. The time is roughly equivalent to a 3:56 mile.

Marquardt will run alongside 2016 London Olympics 1,500 meter gold medalist Matthew Centrowitz and 2012 silver medalist Leonel Manzano, 2016 800 meter bronze medalist Clayton Murphy and 2015 NCAA Division I 1,500 meter event champion Chad Noelle of Oklahoma State. Marquardt qualified ahead of 2016 indoor mile champion Henry Wynne of Virginia.

The first round of 1,500 meter competition will be held on Thursday, June 22 beginning at 8:44 p.m. Pacific time. The action will be broadcast live by NBC Sports Gold, a web-based subscription service. If Marquardt advances to the final, it will be held on Saturday at 2:40 p.m. Pacific time.

Marquardt became just the seventh runner on the men's side at Haverford to earn six All-America certificates at the conclusion of his senior season. He was named the Centennial Conference Outstanding Track Performer of the Year for six straight running seasons dating back to cross country of his junior campaign.

The Pasadena, Calif. product was a three-time national runner-up as an individual or relay participant and was also of member of Haverford's second place cross country team during his freshman season.
