Bevy of Scoring Finishes for Men's Track & Field at Chester Quarry Classic

CHESTER, Pa. – The Haverford College Men's Outdoor Track & Field team posted a multitude of scoring finishes at the Chester Quarry Classic on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Widener University. The Fords finished the meet in a tie for fourth place.

Greg Morgan led a host of Haverford runners in the 1,500 meters. Morgan crossed in 3:53.80, good for second overall. Morgan was the top collegiate finisher in the race, second only to Charlie Marquardt '16. The time is the third-best in all of NCAA Division III so far this season. Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe was eighth overall in 4:02.07 while James Barker (4:07.48) and Sam McCalpin (4:09.63) also posted Top-15 finishes for Haverford.

James Stadler won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:36.34. Lincoln Satterthwaite was second in 9:51.68 while Matthew Willig (10:28.85) and Liam Bassett (11:12.42) were fifth and sixth, respectively, to score for the Fords.

Liam Lynch won his heat in the 400 meter run, finishing third overall with a time of 49.63. Gene Perry also scored for the Fords with a fifth-place finish in 51.66. Chris Goings finished seventh overall in the 800 meters, crossing in 2:00.17. Ian Woodhouse was ninth in 2:02.02 while Tyler Fong also finished in the top 10 in 2:02.33. Zach Oji scored in the 110 meter hurdles for Haverford, with a mark of 17.91, good for an eighth-place finish.

In field events, Andrew Lummus had a solid day in the jumping pit, with a sixth-place finish in the triple jump, recording a mark of 13.24 meters, the ninth-best individual mark in program history. Greg Van Aken scored for the Fords in the pole vault with a fifth-place finish. Van Aken posted a mark of 3.70 meters. Josiah Legaspi also scored for Haverford in the hammer throw. Legaspi finished seventh with a throw of 34.09 meters.

The Fords also sent two teams to compete in each of the two relay events on the track. In the 4x100 meter relay, the team of Greg Van Aken, Cameron Albrecht, Lynch and Oscar Huang finished seventh in 46.16 while the team of Gabe Pascal, Justin Telleria, Silvan Sooksatan and Rohan Shukla finished eighth in 46.97. In the 4x400 meter relay, Gene Perry, Goings, Fong and Lynch crossed in third overall with a time of 3:28.54 while Oji, Hiroshi Kawakatsu, Pascal and Huang finished in fifth (3:40.80).

The Fords will return to action Friday as the team splits athletes between two meets, the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton and the Widener Invitational. The Widener meet will span two days, with action concluding Saturday, April 21.
