Men's Track & Field Hosts Annual Haverford Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's outdoor track & field team hosted its annual home meet on Monday, welcoming in Widener for a dual meet on Johnson Track as well as Haverford's throwing venue. The Fords captured seven event titles during the Monday afternoon meet. 

In the 1,500 meters, Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe took home the event title with a finish in 4:03.35. Lincoln Satterthwaite finished second in a time of 4:05.19 while Conor Madden crossed in third with a career-best mark of 4:06.32. Matthew Willig was fourth in a career-best 4:07.53 while Nathan Akerhielm was fifth in 4:38.22. Steve Gan rounded out the Haverford finishers in 4:42.14.

A large field of Haverford runners competed in the 800 meter final, with Liam Lynch leading the pack for the event title in 1:54.79. Greg Morgan finished third in 1:55.39, just narrowly missing a career best. Tyler Fong was fourth for the Fords in 1:57.75 while James Barker (1:58.56), Sam Ditkovsky (2:00.49), Hiroshi Kawakatsu (2:01.93), Chris Goings (2:02.72) and Ian Woodhouse (2:03.31) also placed within the top 10 finishers.

Gene Perry was the lone Haverford entrant in the 400 meters, winning the event title with a time of 50.73. Perry just narrowly missed a career-best in the distance. Zach Oji won the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 59.82. In the 110 meter hurdles, Oji finished third in 18.14.

In the 200-meter dash, Oscar Huang was the second place finisher with a time of 24.55 while Justin Telleria was fifth (25.77) and Gabe Pascal finished seventh (26.35). The trio also competed in the 100 meter dash, with Huang crossing in fourth place with a time of 12.23. Pascal was seventh (12.50) and Telleria finished eighth (12.53) in the shorter scamper. 

In field events, Greg Van Aken took home the event title in the pole vault, narrowly missing a career-best while clearing a height of 3.90 meters. Keiran Marrett-Hitch finished second in the high jump, posting a jump of 1.65 meters.

Four Haverford athletes took part in the long jump, with Silvan Sooksatan taking the event title with a career-best jump of 6.03 meters. Chris Glazer was second with a jump of 5.79m while Andrew Lummus (5.70m) and Rohan Shukla (5.49m) were third and fourth, respectively.

Lummus won the triple jump, clearing 12 meters. Shukla was second with a jump of 11.88 meters while Pascal was third, clearing 10.54 meters. Josiah Legaspi finished third in the hammer throw with a toss of 35.48 meters. Jack Brower finished second in the shot put with a mark of 7.89 meters while Cameron Albrecht was third with a best throw of 7.68 meters. Albrecht finished fifth in the javelin with a throw of 32.30 meters. 

On Thursday, Dylan Gearinger and Henry Woods will compete in the men's 5,000 meters at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The event is slated to begin at approximately 9:25 p.m as one of the highlights of distance night at the prestigious meet. Ursinus will host the Centennial Conference Championships from May 4 to May 6 in Collegeville, Pa.
