Dylan Gearinger Wins 10,000m at Centennial Conference Championships

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Under the lights at Ursinus, the Haverford College Men's Outdoor Track and Field team placed five scoring finishers in the 10,000 meter run, highlighting the first day of action at the Centennial Conference championships. After the first day of competition, Haverford is in second with 29 total points. 

Junior Dylan Gearinger defended his 10,000 meter crown from a season ago with a time of 31:49.74. Gearinger's mark eclipsed his 31:53.23 time from the 2017 outdoor meet at Johns Hopkins. Gearinger will also compete in the 5,000 meters on Sunday as he will look to complete a distance double for the second straight track season after winning both the 3,000 meter and 5,000 meter crowns at the conference's indoor meet en-route to an indoor national championship in the 3,000 meter run.

Junior Ryan Herlihy was just behind Gearinger in a time of 32:07.84. Senior Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe crossed in fifth with a time of 32:23.57 while sophomore David Watt was sixth in 32:46.12. Sophomore Sam McCalpin finished seventh in 32:47.06. Senior Matthew Willig narrowly missed a scoring mark with a 10th-place finish in 33:03.49.

In earlier action, junior Greg Van Aken finished in seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 3.81 meters to score for Haverford. Senior Josiah Legaspi was 11th in the hammer throw with a toss of 35.04 meters.

The 2018 Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships will continue through Sunday. Haverford will kick off all the action tomorrow with the 3,000 meter steeplechase at approximately 12:25 p.m. Senior James Stadler is the top-seeded individual in the event.
