Greg Morgan Named Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford senior Greg Morgan was named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year, while classmate Graham Peet was also named to the Inquirer's Academic All-Area team, the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA) announced in a release late last week. Morgan's Academic All-Area Performer of the Year designation represents the the third honor in program history, as Peet took home the award a season ago during his junior season. 

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.

A native of Hollidaysburg, Pa., Morgan is a Computer Science major and a repeat honoree to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area squad as well as a three-time Academic All-Centennial selection.

Morgan was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District team selected by CoSIDA this year. He also received the 2019 Varsity Cup Award, given annually to Haverford's top overall student-athlete. On the track, Morgan was the NCAA Division III national champion in the 3,000 meters. He was also honored as the Mideast Region Indoor Performer of the Year as well as the Centennial Conference Track Performer of the Year. Over the course of his career Morgan was a three-time All-American as well as a six-time All-Centennial Conference first team selection. In addition, he was a 12-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Mideast Region honoree.

Peet, the Reigning Centennial Conference Outdoor Track Performer of the Year after capturing the 10,000 meters and the 5,000 meters at the conference championships, recently became the 18th 10,000-meter national qualifier in program history. The Vashon, Wash. product was an All-American finisher in the steeplechase a season ago, crossing in third in that event. The biology major took home the 2019 Kannerstein Award, for the individual whose combination of outstanding athletic achievement and leadership has been a significant factor in a team's competitive success and whose level of performance has brought distinction not only to the individual but also the entire athletic program.

Peet has been a model student-athlete, taking home the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year award in 2017 for cross country and 2018 for track & field. Peet was also the Centennial Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2017 for cross country, and earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors after both the 2018 and 2019 campaigns.
