Stadler captures Centennial crown, Fords finish 3rd

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Senior Christopher Stadler captured the individual title for Haverford College at the 21st annual Centennial Conference men's cross country championship Saturday afternoon while the Fords finished third in the team standings behind first-place Johns Hopkins University and runner-up Dickinson College.

Stadler, who finished with a winning time of 25 minutes, 42.9 seconds, becomes the fourth runner in conference history to win consecutive titles as he out distanced runner-up Ryan Steinbock of Dickinson by 16 seconds over the eight-kilometer course Saturday at the Carroll County Farm Complex.

Haverford accumulated 61 points in the team race. Hopkins, with 34 points, edged out Dickinson by five points to capture the team title.

Along with Stadler, senior Avi Bregman earned first-team all-conference honors for Haverford. Bregman covered the course in 26:05.0 and finished sixth.

Cracking the top-20 for the Fords were sophomores Sam Fujimori (15th, 26:44.4) and Charlie Marquardt (19th, 27:00.0). Rounding out the five scoring positions for Haverford was junior Joel Christian who finished 26th.

Next up on the postseason schedule for Haverford is the NCAA Mideast Regional on Saturday, Nov. 16 hosted by Lehigh University.

In Hood Trophy standings, the annual contest between Haverford and local rival Swarthmore College, the Fords' higher placing than the Garnet (fourth) improves Haverford's advantage to 6-0, including the point earned earlier in the day from women's cross country. This season is the first since 1988 in which the Fords swept the fall competitions between the two schools.
