Fords men earn at-large bid into NCAA men's cross country championship

HANOVER, Ind. – Haverford College's men's cross country team will run one more race in its 2013 season as the Fords were selected Sunday evening as an at-large team into the NCAA Division III national championship meet to be held Saturday, Nov. 23 in Hanover, Ind.

Sixteen at-large teams from across the nation will join the 16 automatic qualifiers -- the top two teams at eight region championship meets -- at the national championship race hosted by Hanover College.

The Fords ran to a third-place finish Saturday at the Mideast region meet in Bethlehem, Pa. Seniors Christopher Stadler and Avi Bregman were assured spots at nationals with their individual finishes, but the duo had to wait until the at-large announcement to learn the rest of the team will be joining them in Indiana.

Stadler finished Saturday's regional as the runner-up, finishing one second behind individual titlist Bobby Over from Allegheny College who posted a winning time of 24 minutes, 29 seconds. Bregman was fifth with a time of 24:47.

Their top-35 finishes in the region race earned Stadler and Bregman, along with sophomore Charlie Marquardt (16th), all-region honors.

Haverford heads back to nationals after running to consecutive second-place team finishes in 2012 and 2011. The Fords captured the College's first NCAA championship with their first-place finish in 2010. At the 2012 championship meet, Stadler finished 12th to earn All-American status.

Saturday's eight-kilometer men's race in Hanover will start at 12:30 p.m, Central time. The women's championship race, which will include the Haverford women's team, starts at 11 a.m.
