Stadler, Bregman voted to Philly Inquirer academic all-area team

PHILADELPHIA – Haverford College's Christopher Stadler has been voted the performer of the year and is joined by teammate Avi Bregman on the Philadelphia Inquirer's 2013 Academic All-Area Men's Cross Country Team, as announced by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA).

The pair of Haverford seniors are two of seven student-athletes to earn 2013 academic all-area honors. In order to be eligible for academic all-area, an athlete must be in at least her second year at the institution and own a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

For Stadler, this marks his second performer of the year honor in cross country (2012) and follows his inclusion on the men's track & field academic all-area team last spring. Bregman makes his first academic all-area appearance in cross country but was voted to the track & field all-area team last spring with Stadler.

Stadler raced to an All-American finish at the NCAA Division III 2013 cross country championship meet with a 19th-place showing in Terre Haute, Indiana. He also earned all-American status last fall with a 12th-place finish at the national meet. The individual runner-up at the 2013 and 2012 NCAA D-III Mideast regional meets, Stadler became just the fourth Centennial Conference runner to win multiple individual titles this fall as he captured the crown for the second straight year.

Like Stadler, Bregman also earned all-region and all-conference honors during this fall's cross country season. At the Mideast regional Bregman was fifth overall following a sixth-place finish at the league meet two weeks earlier. Bregman earned his first all-American certificate last spring with a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the outdoor national meet. He finished 50th at the 2013 cross country championship.
