Marquardt Wins Meet; Fords Place Third at Paul Short

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The No. 16 Haverford College men's cross country team participated in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Friday afternoon. Senior Charlie Marquardt won his fifth career cross country individual title, crossing the finish line with a time of 24:56.

Marquardt has won four of the last six races he's ran in. In the event that had 354 finishers, he won by five seconds over Kieran Sutton of Shippensburg. Haverford finished third among 39 teams in the Brown Race with 94 points. Shippensburg University took home the team title with four finishers in the top 20.  

Junior Jimmy Gorman ran to a 10th place finish in the Brown Race, setting a personal record (25:09). Junior Michael Brier also recorded his best time in the 8K, posting a 25:14, placing 18th. Senior Nicholas Gandolfo-Lucia was the third Ford to finish (25th) with a career-best time of 25:19. Senior Sam Fujimori also recorded points for Haverford, running to the 40th position (25:28). Freshman Graham Peet (25:32) and sophomore Henry Woods (25:48) were the Fords' sixth and seventh finishers. Freshman Ian Steller also ran in the race with a time of 26:17.

In the open men's 8K, senior Jeff Duncan posted the top Haverford time with a 25:55 (28th). Many Fords set new personal bests in the open race, including a trio of sophomores who cut over two minutes off their times. James Stadler (26:53), Liam Bassett (28:45), Brad Morbeck (27:02) each shattered their previous career bests, highlighted by Bassett's improvement by two minutes and 35 seconds.

Other Fords with their career best runs in the open race included junior Charlie Hale (26:04), sophomore Tyler Fong (26:13), junior Evan Hamilton (26:39), senior Ryan Gooding (26:59), and sophomore Lincoln Satterthwaite (27:21).

Head coach Tom Donnelly's squad will now take a week off before taking part in the Rowan Inter-Regional on October 17th. That race is scheduled for 11 a.m.
