Men's Cross Country Takes First at Haverford Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's cross country team hosted the Haverford Invitational at the Alumni Cross Country Course and won the team title over Widener and Eastern. The Fords had seven of the top eight scorers in the four-mile race.

Senior Jeff Duncan was the top Haverford runner with a personal best of 20:25.5, good for eighth place. Four other Fords crossed the finish line in the top 20. Sophomore Tyler Fong was 15th (20:53.7), freshman Michael Schach (20:57.5) was right behind him in 16th, followed by freshman Greg Morgan (21:04.4, 17th) and sophomore Matt Willig (21:07.4, 18th).

Sophomore Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe was right outside the top 20 (21st) with a career best four-mile time of 21:17.3. Other Haverford runners that set career benchmarks in the four-mile event were senior Ryan Gooding (21:18.5), sophomores James Stadler (21:22.4), Lincoln Satterthwaite (21:36.6), junior Julian Schneider (21:59.7) and senior Bill Ristow (22:07.2).

The Fords had the top team score (20 points) with Widener placing second (58 points) and Eastern in third (60 points). Casey Comber won the individual title (19:51.8), just in front of Andrew Marston (19:52.0).

Head coach Tom Donnelly's squad will now travel to Stevenson for the Centennial Conference Championship on Halloween (Oct. 31) (12 p.m.).
