HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's cross country team climbed six spots to the No. 8 national ranking in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national coaches' poll, the organization announced in a release on Wednesday afternoon.

The ranking is the best for the Haverford program since 2015 when the team spent the seventh and eighth weeks of the season as the No. 7 team in the nation. This is the highest week one ranking for Haverford since the squad was ranked No. 2 in the first week of the 2013 season. 

Overall, Haverford received 215 voting points. The Fords are slotted as the second team in the Mideast Region, behind only conference rival Johns Hopkins. Dickinson is the only other Centennial Conference team in the national poll, taking the No. 27 position.

North Central (Ill.), SUNY Geneseo, UW-Lacrosse, Williams and Johns Hopkins make up the top five while MIT and Wisconsin-Eau Claire are slotted just above the Fords. Christopher Newport and Loras round out the top ten.

Haverford is coming off the heels of a strong showing at the Haverford Alumni Open race. The top varsity finisher was Henry Woods, who finished in a personal best 14:59. Graham Peet (15:05) and Greg Morgan (15:18) rounded out the top five with their personal best finishes.

The Fords will have the first four-mile test of the season on Friday at the Main Line Invitational. The race, which is slated to get underway at 5:30 p.m., features Haverford facing off with rival Swarthmore along with Division I competition from Lehigh, Penn and Villanova.
