No. 8 Men's Cross Country Outpaces Swarthmore and Widener at Main Line Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 8 ranked Haverford College men's cross country team topped the Division III leaderboard at the Main Line Invitational on the Alumni Cross Country Course on Friday evening.

The Fords outpaced Swarthmore and Widener, scoring a near-perfect 16 points to 61 points for Swarthmore and 65 for Widener. Dylan Gearinger led all Division III entrants with a new career-best time of 19:58.45. Haverford had the top four Division III finishers as Gearinger was followed closely by Henry Woods (20:14.2), Ryan Herlihy (20:19.8), and Graham Peet (20:28.0). Sam McCalpin finished sixth to round out the scorers for Haverford with a time of 20.41.3.

Following in seventh was James Stadler (20:47.5) while Greg Morgan finished in eighth with a time of 20:51. Matt Willig crossed in ninth (20:53) while Marcelo Jauregui-Volpe finished in 10th (21:00.1) to ensure that Haverford had nine of the top ten finishers among Division III competitors.

Peter Kurtz finished in 13th place (21:35.2) while Hiro Kawakatsu was 15th (21:41.3). Lincoln Satterthwaite crossed in 17th (21:45.2) ahead of Chris Goings in 19th (21:56) and David Watt in 21st (21:57.3). Tyler Fong (22:01.2) and Chris Gandolfo-Lucia (22:08.4) finished in 23rd and 24th, respectively, while first year Matt Katz (22:11.4) rounded out the top 25 performers on a warm day on the Haverford campus.

James Barker (22:13.1), Gene Perry (22:44.0), Jack Hunter (23:07.7), Sam Ditkovsky (23:35.4), Liam Bassett (23:54.3), Conor Madden (23:56.4), Steve Gan (24:15.7), Oscar Melendez (24:16.5), Arthur Chang (24:16.9), Nathan Akerhielm (24:32.3), Chris Bechen (24:42.5), and William Hillegas (24:59.7) were all also finishers for the Fords.

The Fords will ramp things up with a full week off to prepare for the first 6K race of the season, the prestigious Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University. The race is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 29.
