Full Philadelphia Inquirer 2017 Academic All-Area Team Release
HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College junior Graham Peet has been named the Philadelphia Inquirer Men's Cross Country Academic All-Area Co-Performer of the Year, as announced by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA) on Tuesday afternoon. The seven-member Academic All-Area squad also includes senior Henry Woods, who was named to the squad for the second consecutive season. Haverford joins Saint Joseph's as the two programs with multiple honorees while Peet shared Co-Performer of the Year honors with Frank Livolsi of Widener.
Peet, a biology major, was named the Centennial Conference Men's Cross Country Academic Performer of the Year, an award presented to a junior or senior member of the All-Centennial Conference teams with the highest cumulative grade point average.
Peet finished in 50th place at the NCAA Division III National Championships, crossing in a time of 25:05.15 in his third consecutive trip to the national meet. Peet, in just his third season, remains firmly on-track to become Haverford's 12th four-time NCAA national qualifier.
Peet was named 2017 All-Centennial Conference First Team before excelling at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship, taking home the Division III Mideast Region Athlete of the Year award. Peet took home the honor after becoming the 13th individual regional champion in Haverford program history, pacing the field with a time of 25:22.9. It was Peet's third-straight All-Mideast Region recognition as the junior also earned honors in 2015 and 2016.
The product of Vashon, Wash. was the 2015 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year and earned All-Centennial Conference Second Team accolades that year and the next (2016). He is also a two-time member of the Centennial Conference Honor Roll (2016, 2017).
Woods, from New York City, capped off an illustrious cross country career at Haverford with an 18th place finish at the NCAA Division III National Championships, pacing the Haverford contingent with a time of 24:42.90, picking up his second All-America certificate in as many seasons. Woods' honor represents the third straight year that the Fords have had an All-American finisher. Woods is the 35th cross country All-American in the illustrious history of the Haverford program.
Woods adds this season's Philly-SIDA recognition to a bevy of cross country career honors, including this season's Centennial Conference Runner of the Year award and three straight all-region designations.
The Philosophy major was also named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team a season ago and was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District Selection for the 2016-17 academic year. He is a three-time member of the Centennial Conference Honor Roll. (2015, 2016, 2017).
Peet and Woods join Livolsi, David Dorsey and Dan Savage of Saint Joseph's, Kevin Lapansky of Temple, Kevin Monogue of Penn and Taurai Augustin of Holy Family on the squad.
