Men's Cross Country No. 22 in Post-Conferences National Poll

USTFCCA National Coaches Poll
Mideast Regional Rankings

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's cross country team moved up a spot in the week seven release of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches Poll, the organization announced in a release on Wednesday afternoon. The Fords check in at No. 22 in the annual post-conferences poll after a second-place performance at the Centennial Conference Championships in Gettysburg last weekend.

Haverford also maintains its third spot in the Mideast Regional ranking, behind just national No. 4 Carnegie Mellon and No. 6 Johns Hopkins and ahead of No. 32 Dickinson. Landmark champion Elizabethtown, CAC champion York, MAC champion Widener, Stevenson, Swarthmore, and Moravian round out the regional rankings this week.

Haverford put a pair of runners in the top 10 in the men's race at the Centennial Championships as first year Ryan Kredell and senior co-captain Sam McCalpin each picked up Second-team All-Centennial Conference nods, finishing in ninth and 10th, respectively.  McCalpin earned All-Conference honors for the second time after also earning an all-conference finish in 2017 at the same Gettysburg course. As the top first-year finisher, Kredell was also named the Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year. A Haverford runner has now earned that distinction each of the last two seasons as Jamie Moreland was the conference's Rookie of the Year in 2018 following Haverford's title-winning performance at home on the Alumni Cross Country Course.

The top five teams in the national landscape were shaken up significantly as North Central (Ill.) and Williams were able to hold on to the top two spots after capturing their respective conference crowns, but Claremont-Mudd-Scripps jumped five spots to No. 3 in the nation after an impressive showing at the SCIAC championships. Carnegie Mellon remains stagnant at No. 4 while Pomona-Pitzer fell two spots after losing the head-to-head battle with CMS at the aforementioned SCIAC meet in Southern California.

Men's Cross Country next returns to action at the 2019 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional at Lehigh University. The race will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 16 as the Fords look to earn automatic qualification to the NCAA Championships by virtue of finishing as one of the top two teams in the regional race.
