Haverford duo combines to throw no-hitter against Juniata

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Haverford College softball team's final day in Florida was a memorable one as sophomores Sara Tauriello and Emily Winesett combined to throw a no-hitter in an 8-0 five-inning victory over Juniata College at Hancock Park. The win over the Eagles capped an undefeated day for the Fords as they started Friday off with a 6-5 victory over Farmingdale State College.

Haverford (7-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run single to right field by junior Sarah Brody that brought Dayle Comerford and Jen DiCandilo home. The Fords kept pouring it on with two more runs in the second and single runs in the third and fourth frames.

Haverford's pitching was just as impressive as its hitting as starter Tauriello (1-0) struck out five and walked one in four innings of work.

After the Fords hung two more runs on the board in the fifth, Winesett sent Juniata down in order in the fifth to close out the contest.

Elizabeth Newman continued her hot start to her senior season with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate that included two doubles. Brody tallied three RBIs while Julie Garlick added another.

In the first contest of the day, Haverford registered its fourth one-run victory of the season with a seventh-inning rally to get past Farmingdale State (3-4). Trailing 5-3 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Fords were patient at the plate on the way to authoring their third comeback in the last two days. Lauren Touey delivered in a bases-loaded situation as she drove home Brody for the winning run.

Claire Fitzgerald (2-0) pitched the seven to earn her second win of the season.

Haverford returns to action on Tuesday when it welcomes Immaculata University to Class of '95 Field for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
