Newman named Centennial softball player of the week

LANCASTER, Pa. - Haverford College's Elizabeth Newman was almost impossible to get out last week and the Centennial Conference took notice as the senior was named the conference softball player of the week on Monday afternoon.

Newman, a fixture in the leadoff spot, swung a hot bat during a 4-0 week for the Fords (11-1) as she hit a blistering .812 (13-for-16). Once on the base paths, Newman continued to do some damage as she stole three bases and scored six runs.

A first-team all-conference selection last season, Newman finished with five RBIs on the week including a season-high four in Game 2 against Arcadia. Newman also drove in the winning run in the opener against Penn State-Berks to help Haverford establish a new program record for fewest games to reach double figures in wins.
