Softball's winning streak comes to an end at Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. - The Haverford College softball team saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday afternoon at Rowan University as the Fords dropped a pair of games to the host Profs. Rowan claimed a 12-0 five-inning victory in Game 1 before closing out the non-conference doubleheader with a 3-0 win in the nightcap.

Haverford (11-3) entered the twinbill looking to extend the best start in program history but Profs' right-hander Krysti Maronski (7-2) kept the Fords' bats silent in Game 1 as she struck out five and allowed just two hits in four innings of work. Juniors Jill Schnall and Julie Garlick accounted for Haverford's lone hits in the contest.

Rowan (13-4) moved out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and added five more runs in the fourth. Sophomore Sara Tauriello (2-1) took the loss in the circle for Haverford.

Eyeing a split on the day, the Fords loaded the bases in the first inning of Game 2 but Profs' starting pitcher Beth Ann Hyland (6-2) ended the threat by striking out Stephanie Wolfson.

Rowan scored one run in the first, second and third innings and Hyland did the rest as she limited Haverford to just five hits overall.

Elizabeth Newman, Jen DiCandilo, Kristin Tatum, Wolfson and Schnall came up with the hits for the Fords while senior Claire Fitzgerald (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season in the circle.

Haverford opens Centennial Conference play on Saturday with a trip to Dickinson College. The doubleheader against the host Red Devils begins at 1 p.m.
