GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Haverford College softball team battled No. 6 Rowan on Thursday afternoon, but was unable to come away with a win as the Profs swept both ends of the doubleheader. Strong pitching kept the Fords in game one; however, they were not able to come away with the key hits in the 3-1 defeat. The host Profs' offense exploded in game two for a 13-1 victory.

In the opening game, starting pitcher Temma Levis kept the powerful Rowan offense in check for the vast majority of the afternoon as she allowed just six hits during her five innings of work. The Fords put the first runner of the game in scoring position with Kendall Chambers doubling down the right field line in the second inning before a double play ended that threat.

Working around a one-out single in the first and leadoff error in the second, Levis then set the Profs down in order during the third inning. However, the hosts took the lead in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly following back-to-back singles before Levis got the final batter of the inning to fly out to centerfield.

Haverford loaded the bases in the top of the fifth with both Kendall Chambers and Alex Craig reaching on errors while Levis singled in between those at-bats. Rowan cut down a run on a grounder to short that put one away, but an RBI groundout from Briana Quinn tied the game at one-all. However, the Profs escaped any further damage with their third straight groundout of the inning. Rowan scored the eventual game-winning runs in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out double.

Rachel Wolfson tried to jump start the Haverford offense in the sixth with a double into the gap but was thrown out trying to stretch for a triple. That aggression on the base paths ultimately came back to haunt the Fords as Jessica Koshinski singled during the next at-bat and reached second on a wild pitch before being stranded in scoring position. Rowan's Jesse DeDemenico retired the Fords in order during the seventh to run her record to 8-0 on the year.

In the second game, Rowan scored in each of its innings at-bat. The Fords got their lone run of game two with Wolfson's second home run of the year over the left field fence. Rowan finished the game with 12 hits, five of which for extra bases.

Softball will return to Centennial Conference action this weekend as the Fords trek to Lancaster for a doubleheader at Franklin & Marshall that will get underway at 1 p.m.
