CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Haverford College softball team battled Washington College in a rematch of last year's Centennial Conference Championship games on Sunday. Unfortunately for the Fords, the return to Chestertown – the site of last year's dramatic back-to-back wins for the title – saw Washington College hold the upper hand on this day with a pair of 9-2 wins.

Big innings early in both games put the Fords in deficits that they just could not erase. In the first game, it was a five-run second inning that paved the way for the Shorewomen's victory. Three extra base hits in that inning accounted for four of the five runs in that frame. In game two, the Shorewomen pushed seven runs across in the first before the Fords settled down and got back-to-back strikeouts in the circle from Temma Levis.

Haverford scored its two runs in the first game during the top of the fifth. After two outs on the infield, Hailey O'Mara beat out an infield single to start the frame. Rachel Wolfson followed that up with a single into left field. Both of those runners came around to score on a double down the left field line off the bat of Ashley Sisto. The Fords finished game two with six hits as the combined Shorewomen staff let the Fords come no closer as the host offense added on three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

A home run off the bat of Jessica Koshinski got the Fords started offensively in the fourth inning of game two. Her home run was the third of her season and ninth of her career at Haverford. She now ranks sixth in program history with her nine big flies. Koshinski also scored Haverford's run in the sixth inning. She reached on a fielder's choice and scored following back-to-back singles from Kendall Chambers and Levis.

Softball will wrap up the regular season this upcoming week with a pair of home doubleheaders. Haverford will host Arcadia in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday before closing the 2017 campaign against McDaniel on Saturday. Saturday's 1 p.m. doubleheader will also mark senior day for captain Kendall Chambers.
