HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's basketball team continued its perfect start to the season with a 62-43 victory over visiting Washington College in Centennial Conference action at Gooding Arena on Tuesday night.

The Fords (5-0, 3-0 CC) took control of the contest with a 19-1 run over an eight-minute span in the first half. Nina Voith and Elizabeth Lynch nailed two three-pointers apiece during the surge that saw Haverford move out to a 27-8 advantage with less than two minutes to go before intermission. Cara Wyant drilled the Fords' fifth three-pointer of the half in the final 30 seconds of play to send the hosts to the locker room with a 19-point lead, 32-13.

Haverford was also clicking on the other end of the court as it pestered Washington (1-4, 0-2) into a 5-for-27 shooting performance from the field over the opening 20 minutes.

Two free throws from Voith gave the Fords their largest lead of the night, 39-17, with 18 minutes remaining in the contest. The Shorewomen moved within 13 on a layup by Kelly Mitchell at 15:47 but they would get no closer. Wyant converted two free throws after a Haverford timeout and Hope Rainey followed with a jumper to squelch the visitor's rally.

Rainey went 2-for-2 from the line with just over a minute to play to restore the Fords' 20-point advantage before a bucket by Washington's Kelly Sugalski in the final seconds accounted for the final score.

Voith finished with a game-high 19 points while Lynch added 13 points to go along with six rebounds. Wyant chipped in with nine points, six rebounds and three steals while Shannon Smith scored eight points. Junior point guard Jacquelyne Pizzuto tallied seven second-half points and a game-high five assists.

Latisha Pledger paced the Shorewomen with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Haverford has now won three of the last four meetings between the two squads.

The Fords, who are 5-0 for the first time in program history, get right back into action on Thursday when they welcome Franklin & Marshall College to Gooding Arena for a conference contest beginning at 7 p.m.
