Centennial champs well represented on all-conference squad

LANCASTER, Pa. - Haverford College was well represented when the Centennial Conference released the 2014 all-conference women's basketball squad on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Nina Voith earned a spot on the first team while juniors Elizabeth Lynch and Jacquelyne Pizzuto garnered second-team honors. Head coach Bobbi Morgan, who steered her club to the program's first conference championship, was recognized as the coach of the year by her peers.

Becoming just the second Haverford player in program history to earn first-team honors, Voith delivered 23 double-digit scoring performances in her final season in a Haverford uniform including a career-high 27 points against Muhlenberg on November 26. Voith, the most valuable player of the conference tournament, tied for sixth in the conference in scoring at a team-high 14.5 points per game and finished fifth in the conference in free-throw shooting percentage (79.2).

Named second-team all conference in her freshman and sophomore seasons, Voith became the program's all-time leading scorer on February 5. Entering NCAA tournament play with 1,390 career points, Voith will also graduate as the program record holder in field goals made.

Lynch was the second-half of Haverford's 1-2 scoring punch as she hit double figures 20 times. The program's all-time leader in three-pointers made, Lynch finished eighth in the conference in scoring (13.1 ppg) and 10th in three-point field goal percentage (28.8). Lynch delivered a program-record six shots from behind the arc on her way to a career-high 26 points at McDaniel College on January 11. Lynch's 51 three-pointers at this point of the campaign also constitutes a new single-season program high. Also playing an integral part on defense, Lynch ranked fourth in the Centennial in steals (45).

Having a great sense of when to attack and when to distribute, Pizzuto offered a calming presence at the point guard position as the Fords made their title run. The junior, who finished second in the conference in assists (95) and minutes played (835), helped Haverford clinch the top seed in the Centennial tournament with key buckets in an overtime victory at Swarthmore on the final day of the regular season. Ranked among the national leaders in assist-turnover ratio, Pizzuto then shined in front of the home crowd with just three turnovers in 70 minutes of action during the historic championship weekend at Gooding Arena.

Not afraid to step up and take the open shot, Pizzuto, who earned honorable mention all-conference recognition as a sophomore, finished fourth in the conference in three-point shooting percentage (35.1, 34-for-97) and nailed a career-high four three-pointers in road victories at Ursinus College and Washington College on January 28 and February 12, respectively.

Recognized as the conference coach of the year for the second time in the last three seasons, Morgan guided the Fords to a program-high 15 conference victories as Haverford surpassed the 20-win mark for the first time in history. Picked to finish fifth in the preseason poll of conference coaches, the Fords registered their fourth consecutive season of double digit wins en route to their third straight playoff appearance.

In her sixth season at the helm of the program, Morgan's squad heads to the NCAA tournament with almost as many wins this season (23) as the program had total in the six seasons (28) prior to Morgan's arrival at Haverford.

Swarthmore College senior Katie Lytle was named player of the year while Mary Martin from Dickinson College merited rookie of the year honors.

The Fords will look to add another chapter to their historic campaign this weekend when they take on Rhode Island College in Ithaca, N.Y., on Friday at 6 p.m. in NCAA regional action.
