Women's Basketball Uses Strong Defense in Win over Dickinson

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's basketball team used a strong defensive effort in taking down the Dickinson Red Devils 78-48 at the Gooding '84 Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Fords held the Red Devils to 3-of-23 shooting (13.0%) in the first 20 minutes. Haverford scored the first 14 points of the game while Dickinson did not score its first basket until the 6:37 mark of the first half. Head coach Bobbi Morgan's squad shot 53.6 percent (15-28) from the floor in the first stanza and had eight different players score.

In the second half, freshman Sierra Berkel was perfect from the field, going 4-for-4 with eight points. She also added in four rebounds and a steal. The Fords continued their hot shooting, going 14-of-26 (53.8%) in the second stanza. Dickinson's Helen Roberts had 15 points in the second half and finished with a game-high 18 points.

Freshman Anna Schrecengost had a season-high 14 points, making six of her 11 shots (54.5%) and grabbed two steals. Senior Jacquelyne Pizzuto also tallied 14 points while grabbing seven rebounds, dishing out five assists and snagging three steals. Senior Elizabeth Lynch had 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Berkel and freshman Samantha Wetzel were perfect from the floor, each making four baskets. Wetzel had 11 points and four rebounds in the win.

Haverford saw its record improve to 1-3 and 1-0 in the Centennial Conference while Dickinson's record dropped to 1-3 and 0-2 in the conference. The Fords have now won six straight conference games dating back to last season. They will take on Muhlenberg on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. in a doubleheader with the men's basketball team.
