Lynch Surpasses 1,000 Career Points In Fords' Win over F&M

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Senior Elizabeth Lynch surpassed the 1,000 point plateau as the Haverford College women's basketball team (12-6, 10-1 CC) defeated the Franklin and Marshall Diplomats (5-13, 2-9 CC) 80-47 at the Gooding '84 Arena on Thursday night.

Lynch finished with 10 points and now has 1,002 in her career. She is one of only six players in program history to reach the mark and fourth under head coach Bobbi Morgan. The last Ford to record the milestone was Nina Voith '14 last season, who finished as the all-time leader in points (1,411).

After seven straight points by the Fords, the Diplomats cut its early deficit to two at 10-8 at the 15:46 mark of the first half. Haverford answered with a 13-2 run over the next four minutes to push its advantage to 11 after a three-pointer by junior Olivia Walsh (21-10).

With 6:03 left in the first half, Lynch came up with a steal, drove the length of the court, and laid it in for career points No. 999 and 1,000. Her basket was part of a 19-4 push over an eight minute time span which expanded the Fords' lead to 24. Over the final 12 minutes of the first half, Haverford held Franklin and Marshall to just two made baskets and went into the locker room with a 44-17 advantage. The home team was on fire, shooting 50 percent from the floor (17-of-34) and beyond the arc (6-of-12).

Freshman Anna Schrecengost paced the Fords in the second half with seven points while senior Pallavi Juneja added five points off the bench. Haverford was 12-of-26 (46.2 percent) in the second stanza, never allowing Franklin and Marshall to get within striking distance.

Haverford set a new single game record with 11 three-pointers. The Fords also reached the 80 point mark for the second time in two weeks and 11th time in program history.

Five players reached double figures in scoring for Haverford. Schrecengost and Juneja had 11 points to lead the team, while Lynch, freshman Sierra Berkel, and senior Jacquelyne Pizzuto pitched in 10 points each. Pizzuto was perfect from the field, making all four of her baskets, while dishing out six assists and grabbing three rebounds. Berkel and senior Shannon Smith tallied nine rebounds a piece. The Fords out rebounded the Diplomats 48-36 and blocked six shots in the game.

Tonight was the Fords' sixth straight win, their most since winning eight consecutive games twice last season. Haverford remains a half game behind McDaniel (11-1) in the Centennial Conference and just in front of Mulenberg (11-2). Head coach Bobbi Morgan's squad now heads on the road for three straight, beginning with the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Fords beat the Blue Jays earlier this month at the Gooding '84 Arena 51-47 behind 16 points from Lynch.
