Haverford Hosts Another Successful Hoops from the Heart Clinic

An important weekend of hoops; by Mike Jensen (Philadelphia Inquirer)

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's and women's basketball teams hosted the 16th annual Hoops from the Heart Martin Luther King Jr. Day youth basketball clinic on Monday at the Gooding '84 Arena.

The Fords joined forces to welcome many children to Gooding Arena on the morning of January 16 for three hours of basketball instruction. Haverford players and coaches had the opportunity to mentor youth and share their knowledge of the game.

The Haverford event was one of four Hoops from the Heart clinics that took place Monday in Delaware County. There were clinics conducted at Cabrini College, Neumann University, Widener University and Haverford College. The four clinics raised over $10,000 for the Community Action Agency of Delaware County (CAADC). On Haverford's campus alone, the clinic drew well over 100 participants.

In addition to operating shelters and daycare facilities for individuals and families, the CAADC provides many vital services including welfare to work programs and food and fuel assistance to families in our community. All of the Hoops from the Hearts participants gave generously to the CAADC food bank as non-perishable items were collected at each site. The Haverford Township Recreation Department was a co-sponsor of the event at Haverford College.

Since its inception in 2002, the Hoops from the Heart initiative has raised more than $100,000 for the CAADC.
