HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford Women's Basketball team extended its win streak to a program-best nine games with a 79-35 win over visiting Bryn Mawr on Tuesday evening in the Gooding '84 Arena. The Fords were paced by a 19 point night from Macy Goldbach, and also received 14 points and nine rebounds from Samantha Wetzel as well as a career-high 10 points from freshman Megan Furch. Furch also added seven rebounds in a well rounded effort. Haverford improves to 13-4 (10-2 CC) with the win while Bryn Mawr falls to 1-16 (0-13 CC) in defeat.

The Fords fell behind 5-0 thanks in part to a quick three pointer from Halena Martin out the gate and a jumper from Elizabeth Chan as the visitors took the reigns against their Bi-Co rivals. Goldbach tied the score with a layup at the 7:55 mark in the first quarter. At 6:17 remaining in the first, Samantha Wetzel blocked a shot from Sydney Garner, giving the junior 161 career blocks, a new Haverford program record.

The Fords closed the quarter on a 10-2 run after Bryn Mawr tied the game at 9-9 with a Martin trey at the 4:19 mark.  Haverford then finished the first half on a 16-4 run to take a 20 point advantage into the intermission with a 35-15 lead.

The second half saw the Fords' lead balloon to 30 with 6:06 left in the third quarter as the Fords outscored the Owls 42-12 over a 20 minute stretch of action. Aleiyah Springer saw her first extended action of the season, hitting a pair of free throws in the third for her first career points. The lead hit 45 as freshman Hannah Zoll hit a jumper with 2:09 remaining in regulation before Erica Dwyer responded for the Owls, drilling a three with under a minute left.

Haverford held Bryn Mawr to just 23.6 percent shooting while shooting 47.8 percent on the night. Freshmen Zoll and Unique Tuberville each set new career bests with four points each. Martin led the Owls with 16 points while adding seven rebounds in defeat.

By virtue of Haverford's win and Dickinson's loss on Tuesday to Johns Hopkins, Haverford has taken over first place in the Centennial Conference and controls its destiny in pursuit of the number one seed in the Centennial Conference tournament next month.

Haverford will next return to action on Thursday night in Collegeville, Pa. against host Ursinus. The matchup is slated to begin at approximately 8:00 p.m. and will be preceded by the Haverford men facing off with the Bears at 6:00 p.m. The Bears nipped Haverford at the buzzer in the first conference game of the season at Gooding '84 Arena. Haverford returns home on Saturday to host Dickinson at 1:00 p.m.
